General Splicing Tips

Step 1

Before starting, it is a good idea to read through the directions so you understand the general concepts and principals of the splice.

Step 2

A properly executed splice retains approximately 90% of the rated tensile strength of the rope.

Step 3

During the splicing procedures, as you separate and tuck the strands:

• Try to retain the twist of the filaments in each strand.
• After each tuck, pull firmly on the strands so as to remove excess slack-but do not pull so hard as to cause bunching.

Tools Required

Masking Tape, Sharp Knife, Felt Tip Marker, Measuring Tape, and Splicing Fid.
Splicing Fid is needed to separate the strands while splicing.
